The 33 mm sandwich module at 17 kg/m²

A finished wall panel that arrives with its decoration already on: 6 mm backing, aluminium frame, 20 mm acoustic layer, 6 mm decorated face.

The module is 900 × 3000 mm and 33 mm thick, with lengths up to 3000 mm made to order. Its build-up is a 6 mm magnesium crystal backing board with aluminium foil, an aluminium frame, a 20 mm acoustic layer and a 6 mm decorated magnesium crystal face. The magnesium board is based on magnesium oxide, magnesium sulphate, light-burned powder, modifiers and fillers.

The physical figures are: substrate density 1.1–1.2 g/cm3, thermal conductivity 0.24 W/(m·K) at 25 °C mean, screw holding at the face 980 N, and a panel weight of about 17 kg/m2. That weight is the important number for a fit-out: one person can carry a 2.7 m2 panel, and a wall of these panels adds about 17 kg/m2 to the structure instead of the 100 kg/m2 or more of a block wall.

The sandwich construction does acoustic work as well as decorative work. The 20 mm core separates the two skins, so the panel behaves as a constrained layer rather than a single sheet; combined with the frame system it gives a wall that is quiet without a separate acoustic build-up behind it.

Because the face is already finished, the site operation is assembly rather than decoration: no plaster, no paint, no drying time, and no wet trade in a building that may already be occupied. On a refurbishment that is often the deciding factor — the corridor can stay open while the wall in front of it is rebuilt.
